Sunshine was important to St Albanites for a number of reasons:
- There were many industries which provided employment, including the iconic Massey Ferguson.
- The nearest secondary schools were located in Sunshine.
- There was a picture theatre, a swimming pool and more shopping opportunities.
- It was very similar in its multicultural make up of post war migrants.

In 1951 the City of Sunshine was proclaimed. The Sunshine Cavalcade was published to commemorate the occasion.
